My Guide To Uni Life

BE YOURSELF

Don't try to change yourself in order to please others. Yeah change is natural growing up especially when you go through things life throws at you, but always stay true to yourself. If someone likes you for who you are then you know the friendship was meant to be. Everyone is unique, and that's what I love about uni. I study at an arts uni so you can imagine how many different people I see everyday. It's so multicultural and diverse. It's nice to see people you wouldn't expect to have much in common just get along. Most people start university alone so no one is there to judge you.

GRAB OPPORTUNITIES

One thing I regret after second year is not getting involved in things as much as I should have. Be spontaneous and be willing to push yourself further. If you don't get out of that comfort zone now then when will you? Engage in your subject area, who cares if you look too eager. At the end of the day the more connections you make, the better it will be for you after uni in the long run.

DON'T BE AFRAID TO VOICE YOUR OPINIONS

Being somewhere new can be really overwhelming and nerve racking, but you have to fight that feeling. The more questions you ask and the more you will learn and the more confident you will be. No one's opinion is wrong and you're lecturers will respect what you have to say. Who knows what you may be thinking could be the same thing someone else is thinking. Or maybe you have something new to say that no one has really thought about? It goes a long way, especially when it comes to writing the final dissertation in your final year.

THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU SPEND MONEY

Do you really need it? Is it something you can live without? Times are hard right now since the cost of tuition fees went up so you've got to use your student finance wisely. It's not always enough but you've got to be smart especially if you don't live away from home, it's tough. You have the responsibility of paying for your accommodation. Always make sure you put aside money for your rent before you splurge it all out on nights out, clothes, unnecessary s**t, etc. Trust me, you will be struggling just to pay for grocery shopping if you don't balance it out.

DON'T FORGET TO HAVE FUN

Yeah you need take your course seriously but there's no harm in enjoying yourself sometimes. Try not to be too overwhelmed by the work load and always prioritize your time spent on studying. As far as you have a balance between work and social life you'll survive. When you just study 24/7 you kind of forget how to relax and just switch off...BUT let's be honest going out, socializing is one of the things most people look forward to about uni. I'm just saying it to those of you who haven't thought of it that way. Studying is important but don't forget to do the things that make you happy. Uni is an experience you never want to forget!
